Mediation is an alternative to going to family court to make arrangements for children and arrangements for financial separation.
Providing there are no safety issues then Judges don't want to make decisions regarding families as they don't know the family. They want where possible for the parents to decide.
Family mediation is generally quicker than the family court process and for this reason it's usually considerably less expensive.
Family court can take on average between 6 and 18 months to reach final hearing. With mediation we help to get some short term arrangements in place and then use this as a foundation to build from.
How much does mediation cost?
The cost of mediation vary with the services required, see our complete breakdown on mediation costs. Legal Aid is available.
You maintain control as you are the decision makers. Court can be necessary if a decision really can't be reached together but this may end up being something neither of you wanted.
Going to court can be a very stressful experience. Whilst we understand mediation can also seem scary, it does tend to be a lot less stressful on the family as a whole and can often improve communication which is the best way to improve things for the future.
We start the mediation process by meeting the two parties individually to assess if mediation is appropriate for your individual needs. This decision is reached mutually between the Mediator and the client.
The meeting is used to discuss which of our mediation services is going to work best for your situation.
Once the MIAM meetings have been completed for both clients we then look to bring you into a room together to discuss arrangements. We don't expect this to be an enjoyable experience but we hope it is constructive.
